DANNY GIVES THE APRIL 30 FISHING REPORT

If you have been following our website or socials in April, you know we have been eager to announce the arrival of 50 degree water temps in Nantucket Sound for almost two weeks. It stubbornly held on to 48-49 degree temps for almost the last week and a half!!! Finally, a few days ago, we finally broke through and hit the magic number. Why is 50 degrees so important?

Science and experience have shown that, at 50 degrees , a number of the saltwater species we like to chase most really activate or move into our area at that temperature. Squid and Tautog activate at slightly lower than at stripers, but everything really kind of kicks into gear at 50.

There will be fish out there this week. You don't have to wait for the old adage / old wives tales of " dandelions are blooming in the yard , the cherry blossoms are out or wait until Mothers Day" before you dare go wet a line. At 50, stripers will move in and you can catch them. At this time of year, while it is still a little chilly, it's lack of fishing effort and not a lack of fish why you aren't seeing your social media feed filling up with the first striper pics yet. Be the first one to post a pic and get out there and catch one!!!!
